  • These Spring 2025 Fashion Trends Are Totally Worth the Investment

Warmer days are finally upon us (and honestly, they couldn’t have come soon enough—if your winter was anything like mine me, it went extra spicy on the seasonal depression). Like, I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to shove away all of my puffer coats and exchange them for lighter springs outfit that I won’t have to hide under multiple layers of fabric.

With the new season comes fresh new styles. Some of the most talented designers served up major spring 2025 fashion trend inspo on their runways this past fall, and I’ve taken it upon myself to narrow it down into five key trends that are set to take over.

  • Sustainable fashion’s new guard

Sustainable fashion might not get much airtime over fashion month, but that doesn’t mean it’s not present. Each fashion capital plays host to a growing number of designers prioritising sustainability through their supply chains, design processes and business models. In the past, designers and brands leaned heavily on upcycling, but approaches to sustainability are becoming increasingly nuanced. Many of the designers Vogue Business interviewed for this story have their sights set firmly on their supply chains, promoting local crafts, generating job opportunities in their home towns and reworking their balance sheets to build in more equity for suppliers.

  • The Summer Work Outfits Fashion Insiders Actually Wear Into the Office

Summer is the season of sunshine, increased serotonin, and a less-is-more approach to dressing. Typically, this means crop tops, short-shorts, and well-ventilated cutouts. But with your summer work outfits, wearing less isn’t an option. Today’s expectations for 9-to-5 attire are, admittedly, much more relaxed than they once were casual outfits and sneakers have become standard in the workplace post pandemic but office dress codes still matter. Wearing a midriff-baring, siren-like summer work outfit in an office raises concerns, regardless of what fashion discourse on tiktok may suggest.

  • Fashion Trends Globalisation

Despite these variations, the internet and social media have accelerated the global spread of fashion trends.

A street style look in Seoul can influence wardrobes in São Paulo within weeks.

However, these global trends are often adapted to local tastes and contexts, creating unique hybrid styles.

Understanding these geographical nuances in fashion trends allows you to appreciate the rich diversity of global style while making informed choices about incorporating trends into your wardrobe.

It also highlights the importance of considering local context when adopting trends from other parts of the world.

  • What Is A Fashion Trend and Why Trendy Fashion Matters So Much

Fashion trends are temporary movements in style, rooted in the Old English word ‘trendan’, meaning ‘to revolve’.

These fleeting preferences for clothing, garments, footwear, accessories, and outfits reflect societal shifts and individual expressions of identity.

Fashion trends are characterised by their temporality, lasting less than a fashion season, which distinguishes them from enduring styles.

They exert significant cultural influence, shaping and being shaped by subcultured, values, and societal norms.

Interestingly, trends exhibit geographic variability—a trend in London may not necessarily catch on in Tokyo, highlighting the importance of location specific styling.

  • Justice Seekers

The Justice Seekers faction represents how rage is reshaping Gen Z’s cultural landscape. Gen Z demands that brands to step out of the shadows and take a stance on topics like gun control, the environmental crisis, reproductive rights, access to education and racial injustice.

“They’re transforming raw emotion into creative resistance, so fashion becomes protest, and art becomes activism with uncompromising intensity,” Sinclair said. “The Justice Seekers is a faction fueled by feminists, queer and anti-authoritarian values, and they organize through digital platforms. They reject institutional authority, and they embrace civil disobedience as an authentic expression.”

  • Extended Adolescence

Extended Adolescence is a faction of Gen Z that is dealing with soaring costs and milestone anxiety by stepping off the traditional path, not out of rebellion, but for self-preservation. Instead of chasing markers of success they can’t afford or don’t believe in, Sinclair said the faction is turning inward by “indulging in little treats, favoring whimsical and personalized products and embracing joyful hobbies that offer temporary control.”

  • Spring Outerwear Stories

A sporty sensibility carried over from fashion’s Olympics fervor pervaded the spring/summer 2025 runways. Sabato de Sarno showed various fitted zip-up jackets at Gucci, while Bottega and Miu Miu reimagined the wind breaker—Matthieu Blazy notably lined his in plaid, a carryover from fall we’ll get into next. But other kinds of lightweight outerwear were also introduced. At Prada, Miuccia and Raf Simons showed a suede style, proof that fashion’s ongoing obsession with the texture isn’t going anywhere. A cropped leather cape made an appearance at Loewe, upleveling the boho staple we were reacquainted with last spring. Investing in next-season outerwear now doesn’t mean you have to wait until March to wear your pieces—layer similar styles from Gucci and Loewe under heavier coats to maximize their cost per wear.
